EPCOR Technologies is an integrated engineering, construction and maintenance firm with a rich history of delivering complex infrastructure projects for government, utility and private company clients, including developers, general contractors and industrial organizations. We specialize in lighting, power, signal and communication systems.

Brief Description As part of EPCOR Technologies, the Engineering group provides design, project management, consulting and advisory services for the electrical components of the distribution and transportation infrastructure. We are looking for highly motivated Drafting Technologists to join our group and become successful contributors in the services we provide.

EPCOR has one (1) temporary full time position available for up to 11 months!

Detailed Description

Reporting to the Distribution Design Manager, the Drafting Technologist is accountable for the preparation of detailed designs for distribution electrical systems and structures.

The accountabilities of these roles include, but are not limited to:

Providing input to the Design plans and directions.
Ensuring the delivery of optimal results against performance metrics that include:
Adhering to the budget and schedule requirements of all projects
Meeting customer expectations by delivering cost effective, reliable and quality product
Preparing detailed structural or electrical drawings and documents including schematics, profiles, site drawings, circuit layouts, Cadastral plans, etc.
Interpreting as-built mark-ups and preparing as-built drawings, while maintaining both graphic and non-graphic information.
Collecting and analyzing technical and other necessary information to propose solutions to design related issues before, during and after project activity.
Assisting in, or preparing, the design of complex layouts and rearrangements.
Communicating with customers, design team, and project managers on work progress.
Reviewing drafting standards and templates and proposing relevant changes or assisting with updating standards and processes.

Coordinating all permitting requirements including:
Power applications
Utility line assignments
Any other necessary design approvals
Providing support for the preparation of work packages, plotting of drawings and organizing of project documents
Job Requirements

The successful candidates must possess the following qualifications:

Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma in Drafting Technology from a recognized technical institute is required.
Eligible for registration as a Technologist with A.S.E.T.
Minimum 4 years of directly related experience.
Knowledge of design and drafting standards for distribution electrical systems.
Working knowledge and direct experience with GE Small World Electric Office and Microstation.
Demonstrable basic understanding of electrical and underground principles.
Ability to perform simple calculations by following set guidelines.

Familiarity with concepts of some or all of the following:
Electrical distribution
Street lighting
Traffic control devices
LRT
ITS
Fibre optics
Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License with 6 or fewer demerits. A driver's abstract will be required.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of products such as Word and Excel.

The successful candidate must possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills, as well as the capability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities, as required with ease. Other competencies required to be successful in this role include a demonstrated track record of displaying initiative and effective analytical and decision-making skills in utilizing resources and solving technical challenges. In addition, the successful applicant must be able to work effectively within cross-functional teams, be adept at building relationships with various and diverse stakeholders and conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.

Wage: $41.99 to $50.11 per hour
Hours of work: 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday

A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
