Job Summary

The role of Specialist Solution and System Integration is responsible for the successful deployment of advanced infrastructure, telecom, Industrial IoT, software development, application, and technology solutions, systems and services. The Specialist ensures that all business requirements are met by team members and projects, and contributes to the global evolution of CN’s I&T. The Specialist is a key player in the team, ensuring the technology delivered is secure, reliable, available, resilient, performant, and aligned with safety standards per business requirements.

Main Responsibilities

Engage with customers to capture requirements

Translate the technology solution architecture into engineering or software development standards & specifications

Establish test plans and tests results for newly defined solution

Conduct lab testing and log results

Ensure that solution designed meet all business requirements

Based on blueprint and test results in the lab, create Detailed / Functional Design

Establish deployment/migration strategy and guide project team and operations

As required travel to visit field sites and inspect installations

Guide other Integrator(s) and help address potential and current with them

Coordinate installation with technicians in the field, or with business owner for maintenance window

For support issues during project migration or deployment, determine appropriate resolution/solution through root cause analysis and impact analysis

Transition-to-core: update of documentation, systems, training, and presentation

Define and maintain engineering and configuration standards

Apply, and ensure compliance with, all appropriate CN I&T standards (e.g. Security, Architecture, Project Delivery Methodology, SOX, Telecom, Software Engineering, etc.)

Engage external providers and work with Business Planning, Supply Management and Legal teams in the context of procuring delivery and / or support services of existing or new services

Manage the roadmap (hardware & software) with the vendor based on CN strategy & I&T technology needs

Estimate overall solution costs and share information with Project Managers and stakeholders

Create technical diagrams and documentation for the solution

Work with Project managers during the planning phases and identify deployment steps and risks

Follow the Change and Release Management processes by initiating Change Controls and executing cut-over plans.

Working Conditions

This role may require occasional business travel in accordance with CN policy for meetings.

This role supports a 24/7 environment.

Field sites visits for deployment activities or to attend industry events or conferences.


5 to 10 years of relevant work experience

At least 7 years of experience in a software development, manufacturing, management or sales company in the telecommunications services industry

At least 5 years of relevant (specialized) technical experience in complex detailed design and solution integration

Experience in the design, configuration and deployment of telecommunications systems

Proven experience in the delivery of technology projects involving multiple parties

Proven experience with IP protocols and technologies.

Core Network

Experience in design and implementation of MPLS networks.

Routing and Switching

Experience in design and implementation of LAN/WAN solutions.

Data Center

Experience with Cisco Data Center Technologies: Cisco Nexus (N9K,N7K, N5K, N2K, Fabric Path, Spine and Leaf, VxLAN, QOS queuing on Nexus platforms, MPLS on Nexus)

Experience with ASR Platforms (ASR1K, ASR920, ME3600)

Experience with PoE/PoE+.

Tools and Systems Management

Experience in design, automation, deployment of Telecom systems monitoring solutions

Experience in KPIs and dashboard management.


Experience developing automation in the Telecom environment in one or more of the following areas: Network Provisioning, Network Management, Policy Compliancy, Quality Check, Reporting, Testing and Troubleshooting)

Experience with automation frameworks, development environments and technologies related to networking (such as Python scripting, Ansible, Git)

Experience with Agile methodology

Experience in network automation of Micro Focus and Selenium (asset)

Experience with Red Hat OpenStack (asset)

Experience in network function virtualization (NFV) and software defined network (SDN) (asset).


Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, a related field of study, or equivalent work experience

Technical certifications (asset).

Technology and Infrastructure (T&I)

Mastery of telecommunications networks or computer systems and software development

Mastery of IT infrastructure and telecommunications technologies.

Core Network

Expertise in MPLS (LDP, RSVP-TE), MP-BGP and QoS

Deep knowledge of IP routing (EIGRP, BGP, ISIS) and redistribution between routing protocols on different vendor platforms

Expertise in transmission technologies (fiber, copper, microwave)

Certifications: Alcatel NRS2, Cisco CCNP (or higher).

Routing and Switching

Deep knowledge of IP routing (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, ISIS) and redistribution between routing protocols on different vendor platforms

Functional understanding of L2 topologies and deployment (LAN extensions, STP)

Functional understanding of MPLS networking (LDP, MP-BGP)

Good understanding of transmission technologies (fiber, copper, wireless)

Extensive knowledge with the IP network ecosystem: DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls, Load Balancer, Network Acceleration, Network Monitoring tools, WIFI, VoIP.

Data Center

Expertise in design and implementation of LAN/WAN end-to-end solutions

Expertise in Routing protocols (BGP, IS-IS, EIGRP, etc.)

Expertise in Data Center automation (integration with VM, Storage, FW, IPAM, etc.)

Expertise in Security (Zoning, Vlan, VPRN, IPS/IDS, etc.)

LAN/WAN, Data Center, Edge and Core platforms for enterprise/industrial and service provider scale (Nexus, ISR, ASR1K, ME3600, 3850/3650, IE3000/4000, CGR2010, 2960+, etc.)

Expertise in switching technologies and related security (Spanning-Tree, LAN Security – DHCP Snooping, Arp Inspection, Broadcast, Multicast, etc.)

Expertise in QOS (Marking, Queuing, Shaping, Policing, etc.).

Tools and Systems Management

Expertise in tapping and aggregation technologies (Network Critical, GiGamon…)

Knowledge in reporting and analytics solutions (Tableau, PowerBI, Business Objects...)

Knowledge in MIBs and object IDs

Knowledge in SNMP v1/v2, v3, Syslog

Knowledge in Netflow, IPFIX and IP SLA.


Good knowledge of data models and APIs communications

Understanding of Data Center switching, edge routing and cloud networking

Understanding of hypervisor virtualization infrastructure (VMWare).
