The Assistant Store Manager (ASM) plays an integral role in the store’s day to day operations and is key to its ultimate success. Providing our customers with the best possible shopping experience, while adhering to Fresh City’s standards and protocols helps to ensure the store’s financial success. The Assistant Store Manager reports directly to the Store Manager, and when the Store manager is not present, the Assistant Store Manager is responsible for all aspects of store operations, including associate management.

A successful ASM is a team player, and a strong leader who is committed to going above and beyond the status quo. Communication plays a big part in day to day success, and the ASM must communicate and delegate with staff constantly. Follow up to ensure tasks are completed properly, and on time is a key element. The ASM is a flexible individual and must be able to work all shifts and days the store is open.


Customer service is #1 - ensures every single customer is met with the same high standard/experience. This includes greeting, cash service, complaints, requests
Sales/Profits - drives sales by engaging customers, sharing information, sampling, displays and ensures to take all actions necessary to ensure financial success of the company, this may include sending back poor quality stock on receipt, cutting associate hours when quiet, identify and utilize products coming up on best before dates, product rotation
Punctual and Flexible - must be able/willing to fill in when needs arise, adapt to schedule changes, work according to schedule and lead the way by example for associates to do the same
Follow and enforce store policies and procedures, including hygiene, store appearance, customer service, receiving/quality checking, stock rotation, food handling, and general cleanliness of all areas both in and outside of the store
Ensures relevant communication for upcoming shifts/managers is communicated/ left, and thorough
Ordering/Inventory - Is responsible for any ordering/inventory management that the Store Manager assigns
Brand Ambassador - represents Fresh City in it’s best light by being professional, transparent and hard working for the customer.
Working with Store Manager to develop and implement procedures/protocol.
Day to day operations at store level on store managers days off.
Management of staff, including training related to the produce department.
Working with the store manager as needed to fill store needs.
Being the face of Fresh City!


2+ years of experience in a similar store in a supervisor or leadership position.
3+ years experience working in a retail or grocery store.
Produce department or relevant produce experience is an asset.
POS system and cash handling experience.
Purchasing, inventory and product management experience.
Strong leadership and team managment skills but willing to build on them.
Physically capable to being on feet for full shifts on and able to lift.
Positive and energetic attitude.
Capable/enjoys constant change and growth.
Good communicator.
Great organizational skills.
Detail oriented and thorough.
Passionate and knowledgeable about local foods and cooking.
Goes the extra mile for our customers.
Food Handler’s Certificate a plus

Full Time
Full weekend availability required, this includes potential opening and closing shifts
Able to work various days/hours from opening to close.
Flexibility and open to schedule fluctuations
