Are you an experienced mental health practitioner with strong clinical skills in the areas of crisis intervention and support for post-secondary students? CBI Workplace Solutions is seeking a registered psychotherapist, social worker, occupational therapist or mental health nurse for placement in a North Bay post-secondary institution. Student Success Services includes a multi-disciplinary team that supports Student Success and Retention and fosters a healthy environment for students to engage and thrive in their learning and development. The Mental Health Navigator works closely with the team to support student’s mental health and wellness to assure the provision of holistic support to students. The position requires a service-focused professional who treats others with respect, values their time, strives for personal best and collaborates to improve services experience for all.


As the Mental Health and Wellness Navigator, you will:
Maintain a student-focused approach to success wherein students are engaged as partners in learning and all stakeholders are viewed as customers. Engage community partners in supporting student success.
Manage caseload/workload for the provision of direct mental health and learning supports to students including but not limited to:
Crisis intervention for students exhibiting significant levels of distress
Needs assessment of students with non-urgent, self-identified mental health issues/concerns
Solution-focused brief interventions that provide coping strategies and resiliency building based upon the student’s own strengths.
Be responsible for working effectively and collaboratively with a team of learning and mental health professionals to provide concurrent support to allow students to thrive.
Make appropriate and effective use of self in clinical setting.
Prepare and deliver presentations at conferences and workshops.
Participate in staff meetings, educational conferences and workshops.
Collaborate in the development of guidance and counselling programs.
Facilitate psycho-educational session and supervise peer support programs.
Consult with faculty, parents, and community resource partners.

To take on the role of Mental Health and Wellness Navigator, you must:

MA, MSW or M.Ed. in Education, Counselling Psychology-related discipline
Registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, or Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers

Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in counselling adolescents and adults with disabilities.
Familiarity with Psycho-educational assessments, cognitive and personality assessments an asset.
Knowledge of mental health system and community resources. Familiar with variety of mental health disabilities to ensure appropriate referrals and coordination of services.
Excellent empathic, advising and counselling skills to counsel students in distress, mediate and advocate for students. Experience in delivering short-term clinical interventions catered to the needs of a post-secondary population. Clinical knowledge in the area of suicide/self-harm, grief/loss, depression, anxiety and addictions.
Ability to plan and facilitate workshops and speak to large groups of people.
Be comfortable in collaborating and communicating within an interdisciplinary team.
Knowledge in Indigenous culture including attention to mental health and wellness with proven ability to engage and retain Indigenous learners preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills required to write support letters and other documents to advocate for students.
High level of multi-tasking required and excellent organizational ability to manage competing priorities under time restraints.
