and rehabilitation centers in some of Canada’s Quebec’s most remote and isolated
communities. where you will be sharing accommodations with other Child and Youth
Care contractors
About working in the Northern Quebec
· You will be working as an Independent Contractor and billing Shift for hours
worked at a rate of 42$ per hour
· Pre-approved overtime hours of may be available (i.e., hours worked over 38.75
in a 7-day pay period may be billed at $63/hr)
· Contracts are typically 4-6 weeks but can be extended up to 12 weeks based on
staffing needs
· Shared accommodations and meals are provided
· Paid travel from your nearest airport to Northern Quebec
· Transportation from home to airport is the responsibility of the Independent Contractor
· You will be working as an Independent Contractor and billing Shift for hours worked at a
rate of 42$ per hour
· Please note that In Northern Communities cell service is not readily available in
these northern communities and that internet connections can be extremely limited
· There are often opportunities for overtime hours
· Contracts are typically 4-6 weeks but can be extended up to 12 weeks based on
client needs
Duties
· Apply intervention plans for clients.
· Provide positive reinforcement for client behavior.
· Organize and coordinate activities for the clients.
· Observe, analyze, and record client behaviors.
· Attend and participate in team meetings.
· Comply with safety and prevention measures.
· Supervise clients inside and outside the centre/group home, including
during any outings the clients attend.
· Implementing emergency protocols, crisis interventions and non-violent
physical interventions as needed.
· Teach life skills to clients.
Your Qualifications & Skills
· A minimum of 5-9 years of experience working with children and youth within
a similar environment.
· Post-secondary education in child and youth care or special care counselling,
a bachelor’s degree in psychoeducation, psychology, criminology, social work,
or another relevant degree or diploma.
· Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
· English fluency is required, and knowledge of French or Inuktitut would be a
strong asset.
· Able to adapt and work well with clients from different cultural backgrounds.
· Sensitive and understanding of the needs of others.
· Mature with a strong positive attitude.
· Able to collaborate well within a team.
· Ability to work independently; a self-starter.
· Resilience, independence, and confidence.
· Working understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
· Successful candidates are responsible for providing a recent clear criminal check,
references check, vulnerable sector screening, tuberculosis skin test(s), up-to-
date immunization record, and a clear driver’s abstract.
