Summary – This is a joint project delivery and business development position for the development and implementation of the Hatch “New Era” Asset Management FrameworkTM service offerings to clients in the Utilities sector. The selected candidate is expected to have strong utility sector relationships, distribution system technical expertise, and experience either leading or providing significant contributions to the development and/or implementation of asset management programs at distribution, or integrated, utilities.

The significant volume of aging T&D assets coupled with the increasing penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs) has provided additional complexities and challenges for utilities as they need to be smarter and get more out of their existing assets. Hatch’s offerings in the Smart Grid & Asset Management sector are helping utilities make better informed decisions on when to optimally purchase, utilize, and replace critical equipment allowing them to become more responsive, cost effective, and able to adapt to a more complex, digital, data intensive, prosumer driven, decentralized model.

Team – The Smart Grid & Asset Management team supports grid modernization activities, the integration of intermittent generation technologies, impact assessments & location optimization of energy storage systems, and roadmap developments for advanced asset management systems while advising utilities on how to leverage emerging technologies in their capital planning programs.

Position – The Asset Management Project Manager, Utilities (“AM PM”) will be responsible for delivering projects and securing new work. The AM PM will work within a multi-disciplinary team to lead asset management advisory and delivery engagements. The AM PM will lead and/or participate in establishing or improving partial or complete asset management programs for clients, with a specific focus on utilities.

Project Delivery Responsibilities will include:
Leading various complex projects, or combinations of projects related to the development and implementation of asset management programs. This could include asset condition & AM process assessments, gap analyses compared with best practices, development of roadmaps for improvement, leading and/or supporting the implementation of roadmaps, supporting client’s ISO 55000 certification activities, and implementing new technological and/or digital solutions to improve risk-based decision making
Drive the planning & delivery of asset integration systems for electric utilities with increasing penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs), integrating data analytics and other optimization software platforms to improve the utilities’ customer relationship, and return on invested capital
Coordinate activities, and those of the broader project teams, to maintain project schedules & budgets to ensure successful project completion
Leading or supporting all delivery activities in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all of Hatch’s policies and procedures, including Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and progress and financial reporting
Identification, selection, and contract negotiations with potential vendor partners
Support and/or lead distribution system (DSP) planning projects for distribution utilities
Work alongside - and support delivery of projects from other Hatch service offerings including those from – Hatch’s Digital, Advisory, Technology, Infrastructure, or other Power sector businesses
As an AM delivery leader, develop, train, and mentor others to expand the team’s skills and service offerings

Business Development Responsibilities may include:
Identifying target utility clients requiring asset management advisory services in the North American market
Establishing and stewarding relationships with targeted/assigned clients in the utilities sector
Working with the marketing team to establish / update marketing & client facing materials, as applicable
Attending trade conferences and industry association meetings, as applicable
Leading or participation in Bib/NoBid discussions for potential asset management opportunities
Leading or supporting the creation of proposal documents, including project & engineering estimates
With support from management, legal and the commercial team, negotiate & secure contracts
Regularly updating management on the status of potential opportunities
Staying informed on market developments within the utility asset management sector
Staying informed on Hatch’s broader capabilities to support utilities including, but not limited to, digital, advisory, water, environmental, and other power engineering offerings

AM PM Required Qualifications:
15+ years of experience working at a utility, or with utility clients, preferably in the asset management team
Minimum 8 years in a project management position, largely focused on improving asset management programs within electric utility clients
Significant experience in the development and/or implementation of a utility asset management programs
Significant experience in design, operations, asset management, and/or upgrading of distribution systems
Knowledge of the requirements within ISO 55000, 55001, and 55002
Familiar with asset management software/digital tools such as Copperleaf, Totex, Metsco/Engin, MAXIMO, etc.
Formal asset management certification / designation
Familiar with the application of data analytics to risk-based asset management techniques
Experience with system optimized planning & utilization, asset evaluation & selection, development, asset GIS tagging & tracking, maintenance planning, and ultimate disposal or renewal of utility assets
Understand the challenges utilities are facing with increasing DER penetration
Electrical engineering undergraduate degree or related discipline
AM PM Additional Preferred Qualifications

Experience leading distribution system planning (DSP) activities
Preference for an advanced degree in engineering, business, economics, sustainability, or other related to the integration of modern smart grid technologies in distribution asset management systems
Fluent in French or Spanish
Location - While there is a preference for candidates to be based out of Hatch’s global head office in Mississauga, ON, for self-driven candidates that have established significant client relationships, other possible home office locations could include Oakland CA, Los Angeles CA, New York NY, Calgary AB, Vancouver BC, Halifax NS, or Winnipeg MB.

Reporting to the head of the Smart Grid & Asset Management team, the position requires a high level of interpersonal communication skills and demonstrated exceptional project management delivery experience. Please provide client references that can attest to your project management experience in the electric utility sector. A valid driver’s license and passport is required. Occasional domestic and international travel to site locations is required.
