We are looking for someone who has the skills and knowledge to be a white-hat vanguard of Alberta's health systems and protect the health information of Albertans.

Alberta Health operates in a complex information management and technology environment. This environment also faces risks of attack from external forces looking to cripple Alberta's health IT infrastructure and who use the latest in attack vectors and methodologies.

Alberta Health is also tasked with overseeing Alberta's electronic health record system which includes Alberta Netcare. With hundreds of connected networks, software platforms, servers, and data repositories, thousands of entry points, and tens of thousands of administrators, users and stakeholders, protecting the Alberta health IT system is challenging and dynamic work. Never a dull day, or the "same old same old", in this position!

The successful candidate will have a deep technical skill set in information security, experience with cyber security frameworks, risk identification and management, vulnerability management, policy development, and strong oral and written communication skills.

The following competencies are required for this role:
Systems Thinking and Creative Problem Solving - you will need to be able to analyze infrastructure and processes, identify potential system weak points, and do it all without impacting critical production systems and networks providing real-time information and services to health professionals in emergency rooms and elsewhere.

Drive For Results - You will develop security policy and recommendations for the Ministry and its program areas on a wide variety of information security topics and will support the investigation and response to security breaches.
Reporting to the Privacy and Security Manager you will provide expert level security advice to our business units, and other internal and external stakeholders as appropriate. Your advice needs be to clear and concise while considering the importance of cybersecurity, the protection of data, the thousands of health system users, and the lives of almost all Albertans who interact in some fashion with our health system.

Build Collaborative Network - You have a collaborative/team oriented approach and a personal commitment to protecting the security of information that is entrusted to Alberta Health's care.


University Degree in Computer Science or related field plus a minimum of 4 years experience in a security role in a large complex organization is required. Knowledge of information security standards (i.e. ISO 17799/27002, NIST Cyber Security Framework, OWASP etc), rules and regulations related to information security confidentiality (i.e. FOIP, HIA, etc.) and desktop, server, application, database, network security principles for risk identification and analysis are essential. Experience in system and security policy design would be considered an asset. Experience with health information management technology and security issues would be considered an asset. Equivalencies may be considered.

$3022.61 - $4003.55 bi-weekly ($78,890 - $105,276 per annum)
