The Senior Graphic & Web designer is a critical part of the Marketing department and leads the graphic support function with conceptualizing and producing brand assets and visual materials for our retail brands The Shoe Company, Shoe Warehouse and DSW. The Senior Graphic Designer will oversee and create brand assets to support in-store and out of store Marketing campaigns aligned with the annual Marketing calendars. Graphic design deliverables include brand material for print publications, in-store signage (e.g. posters, curb signs, event collateral) and digital channels such as the brand specific e-commerce sites, e-mail campaigns and social media channels. As we shift our marketing investment to digital, it is critical that the senior graphic and web designer has applied experience and understanding with digital design and the ability to optimize for those channels. This role will have 3 graphic designers reporting into them and will be tasked with maintaining team schedule and workload while also providing creative direction and mentorship to the team.

Key Job Functions

Work with marketing manager and assistant to conceptualize and execute all graphic elements for our eCommerce site, Digital Marketing channels (display, social, email) as well as all in-store collateral (window poster, gift cards, bounce-backs)
Create and update website graphics working with existing content management systems for the various e-commerce sites to keep website content fresh and aligned with brand standards
Develop e-mail creative and copy for brand specific e-mail campaigns building on and enhancing existing e-mail templates
Develop graphic elements and postings including copy that can be leveraged across brand specific social media channels such as Facebook & Instagram including design and development of wall posts and multiple ad formats. Experience using or creating Youtube channels considered an asset.
Work with existing brand guidelines and identify opportunities for evolving the guidelines where applicable.
Collaboration and oversight of brand graphic designers
Act as a consultant to the Marketing team and provide graphic design expertise to increase visual impact and effectiveness of brand materials to support Marketing/business objectives.
Liaise with external agency partners and adapt artwork provided if applicable.
May research and evaluate a variety of interactive media software products.

Additional responsibilities may be required depending on the needs of the business

Desired Skills, Education & Experience:
6+ years’ experience work experience as a Graphic & Web Designer (retail experience is an asset) with an understanding of corporate branding and layout in both print, digital & social media.
Understanding of best practices around User Experience design (e.g. responsive design, consistent navigation, fonts, and call to actions). Ability/desire to learn and evolve content creation within an e-commerce Content Management Systems (CMS).
Understanding of current web standards, cross platform compatibility, graphic design and web usability principles.
Practical experience with standards compliant web design tools, which includes HTML, XHTML, DreamWeaver, Javascript, CSS, Flash, and other XML-based applications, and an ability to design full web pages using HTML, google fonts and hosting on a CMS.
Up to date on technology and apps in the creation/editing of content through animation/video
Ability to work with brand guidelines and to translate key points from a creative brief into powerful creative design.
Creative ability and artistic talent
Great working knowledge of Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Self-starter, team player, ability to multi-task, and cope in a fast paced, constantly changing retail Marketing environment
Inquisitive and always looking to push for creative and design excellence in each project
