POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Staff Accountant is a member of the Finance team, responsible for preparing accurate and timely financial statements and other reports. Additional duties include performing balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations, executing accounts payable and accounts receivable processes as well as analyzing financial statements for discrepancies. The Staff Accountant will also be expected to provide leadership for Junior Accountants.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to the Controller or Head of Finance

EMPLOYMENT TYPE:
Full time, Permanent

WORK WEEK:
The Staff Accountant is expected to work during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm) for a total of 40 hours per week.

LOCATION:
Primarily located at our Burnaby campus but requires flexibility to travel between, and work at, Vancouver and Burnaby campuses as required (both accessible by transit).

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of three years of full cycle accounting experience;
Two-year Diploma in Accounting, Finance or equivalent;
CPA PEP preferred

QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficient in Quickbooks Pro and MS Office;
Proficient in ADP, PCP is an asset;
Friendly, detailed oriented, and well-organized individual;
Strong ability to proactively, critically, and collaboratively problem solve;
Excellent coordination and organizational skills;
Superior teamwork capabilities can coordinate, communicate, and work with other departments;
Superior oral and written communication skills;
Ability to maintain professionalism and cordiality when working with others;
Strong ability to take initiative and complete tasks as assigned;
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
Advanced knowledge of excel and accounting procedures;

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Process business transactions: receivable, payable, disbursement, expenses, and receipts;
Perform month-end close: maintain various tax reporting schedules and reconcile bank accounts;
Perform Government Remittance calculations;
Coordinate quarterly and year-end close;
Analyze student database and make adjustments to ensure accuracy and integrity of accounting information;
Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and other issues that should be brought to the Controller attention;
Other duties as assigned by Controller;
