Role Overview

The Software Architect is primarily responsible for the overall design of the application and mapping client business requirements to systems and technical requirements. They are responsible for the vision that underlies the solution and the execution of that vision into the solution. The Software Architect becomes involved with a project at the time the team is developing requirements.

The Software Architect works as a team member of the project board along with the Project Manager, Lead Software Developer, Product Owner and Lead QA Analyst to deliver the complete solution for the customer.


The key responsibilities of this role are the following:
Working directly with customers and leading our project development teams
Defining logical and physical solution architectures
Defining system integration architectures
Ensuring solutions adhere to non-functional requirements
Managing architectural and technical risk
Developing technical best practices and ensuring adherence to them
Overall responsibility for the quality of the technical solution delivered by the project team
Managing technical aspects of the transition of the solution into a production environment
Working with the project manager and product owner to manage the flexible scope with customer
Taking lead on various development activities such as designing and developing specific business components, integrations or larger parts of the solution
Strong focus on high quality throughout the entire development process, working closely with our Quality Assurance teams
Ensuring excellent communication and collaboration between all internal and external teams
This role involves working in a distributed environment with our international customers and has occasional overseas travel. Monthly travel between %10-%15 (on average).


Ideal candidates for this role with have the following:
Excellent verbal and written English
Degree in Computer Science or related subject
Several years experience as technical lead on customer facing projects
10+ years experience developing Java applications
Experience of Java 6 or higher and Java Enterprise technologies
Experience of Spring (2.5 or above)
Experience of ORM frameworks, e.g. Hibernate, Toplink, etc
Experience of RDBMS, e.g. Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server
Experience of system integrations, e.g. using JMS, web services, or ETL tools
Experience and understanding of application performance tuning
Experience and understanding of design patterns
Experience with international customers
Experience writing user stories and acceptance criteria
Strong relationship building skills as you will be liaising with internal and external stakeholders
Experience of running workshops to gather requirements, e.g. user story workshops
Experience of full life cycle projects from initial scoping through to delivery

Any of the following would be an advantage (but not required):

Experience of eCommerce projects
Experience (or strong interest) in agile methods such as Scrum/XP
Experience working with near-shore development teams
Experience in complete project lifecycle from inception to delivery
Experience of web infrastructure components e.g. Apache/NginX/Varnish
Experience of web/mobile application development
Experience with Spring MVC/Integration/Batch
Experience of HTML/CSS/JavaScript/Ajax
