Position Available: PLUSONE Mentoring Support Worker

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, evenings required

Situation:
The YMCA of Greater Moncton serves approximately 5,500 members in a wide range of programs and services. Members represent all ages and backgrounds of this bilingual community. Programs include health and wellness, recreational sports, youth activities and leadership, childcare, child minding, literacy and social outreach.

The YMCA of Greater Moncton operates a 70,000 square foot fully accessible facility, featuring a Wellness Centre, a 25 meter pool, a therapeutic pool, a teaching pool, a full gymnasium, fitness studio, cycling studio, licensed childcare and outdoor playgrounds, 5 locker rooms and numerous classroom facilities. Programs and services are supported by over 235 volunteers from policy to group fitness.

Nature and Scope:
Reporting to the Director of Community and Global Initiatives, this position is responsible for providing services under the PLUS ONE mentoring program and ensuring the program functions smoothly. The program facilitator will interact directly with referral organizations, volunteer mentors and youth, helping develop and maintain positive relationships among all parties. Program facilitator will review and evaluate potential program candidates (both youth and mentor) and provide training and ongoing support and supervision of mentors.

Responsibilities:

  • Present and promote PLUS ONE program and its objectives to potential program partners and the community.
  • Maintain relationships with established partners so that information can be shared, new referrals can be made and updates can be provided.
  • Review and evaluate potential program candidates.
  • Meet with youth and families to develop specific objectives and a development plan for participation in program.
  • Recruit, interview, screen and train mentors and provide support and ongoing supervision.
  • Evaluate mentors and mentees based on interests and needs in order to find best matches.
  • Ensure ongoing communication with youth, family and mentor.
  • Support one-on-one mentoring activities and group activities.
  • Provide training sessions and specialized workshops.
  • Report any unexpected developments or difficulties encountered to coordinator.
  • Develop, revise and updates the various program tools.
  • Ensure that various reports, statistics and other information required are completed on schedule.
  • Participate in the impact evaluation, performance monitoring, and process evaluation that may be undertaken.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

·University Degree or completion of College Diploma in Social Services, Youth work, and/or related fields.

·Experience working with youth in a preventative approach.

·Well developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with youth participants, staff and volunteers.

·Excellent written communication skills.

·Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity.

·Ability to work flexible hours.

·CPR and First Aid Certified.

·Clear vulnerable and criminal record
