Nupqu Development Corporation is a fast-growing business proudly owned by member bands of the Ktunaxa Nation since 2009. With offices in Cranbrook, and Fernie, BC, Nupqu conducts a wide variety of work: providing forestry, environmental, contract administration and general labour related consulting services to a number of clients across industries throughout the Ktunaxa Traditional Territory. We are currently seeking highly motivated, organized and responsible individuals to join our team in a dynamic and rewarding environment poised for significant growth.

These positions will consist of up to full time employment managed out of the Fernie office (duration of contract can be negotiable depending on applicants availability). At least 9 months of the work is as an environmental technician resident contractor on one of Teck Coal’s mine sites in the Elk Valley. The work will include assisting the Mine Site’s environmental team with a number of technical tasks related to environmental compliance and assessment. Local candidates (within Elk Valley) are preferred, but weekly accommodation can possibly be provided for applicants outside of the Elk Valley. The successful candidate should look to have relevant experience and qualifications as outlined below.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Undertake surface and ground water sampling, waste/soil sampling, air monitoring;
  • Coordinate waste/soil movement and treatment;
  • Equipment calibration (YSI, Flow Meter, Ground Water Equipment);
  • Assist with fish salvage, bird/wildlife surveys, environmental inspections;
  • Carry out time and materials tracking requirements as directed;
  • Provide professional and technical support for preparation of Environmental Management Plans, Environmental Protection Plans, Technical Reports, Health and Safety Plans, Request for Proposals, etc.;
  • Competence with various computer programs, imputing and managing data (MS Office - Excel and Word);
  • Proven oral and written interpersonal communication skills;
  • Self-motivated and safety oriented team player.

Qualifications

· Preference will be given to applicants with a post-secondary education in a related field;

· Previous work experience in Environmental Monitoring, Environmental Field Assessments, Survey’s and Technical Report Writing is an asset;

· Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
