Program Lead – CPD BCom, Student Experience

The DeGroote’s Student Experience team supports all students at the DeGroote School of Business – MBA, BCom, specialized graduate programs and PhD students. As an integrated team, we champion new ideas, collaborate across boundaries, and learn continually to deliver a consistent and inspiring student experience. As part of Student Experience, the Career and Professional Development BCom team delivers innovative excellence in three key areas: Career Development, Strategic Employer Partnerships and Experiential Learning, supporting over 3000 BCom students.

The Program Lead, BCom - Career & Professional Development reports to the Manager, Career & Professional Development (CPD) and has oversight of the daily operations of the BCom - CPD team to ensure high levels of service delivery for all stakeholders. Working in collaboration of the Manager, CPD, the incumbent helps establish and monitors annual goals and objectives for the team.

The incumbent leads the BCom - Career and Professional Development team in supporting student career development and in sourcing and securing internships, summer and full-time job opportunities for all BCom students within the DeGroote School of Business. He/she is also responsible for research, planning, development, documentation and evaluation of the BCom CPD career development and campus recruitment programs.

As part of a team of 4 Program Leads across the Student Experience team, the incumbent will work collaboratively with his/her colleagues to ensure that the team promotes and supports student success and delivers excellence through effective and efficient business processes.

The BCom CPD team is located at the DeGroote School of Business in Hamilton.

Responsible for overseeing the operations of a program within a unit or a department. Responsible for the development, delivery and overall quality of programs and services designed to support students in areas of skill development, knowledge acquisition and experiential learning for the purpose of achieving academic and career success while enhancing the student experience.

Develop, execute and evaluate strategic plans including recruitment, admissions, in-course plans and employer engagement to achieve targets.
Research and identify best practice in student experience / co-curricular activities.
Develop and implement knowledge transfer strategies and write a variety of communication and information dissemination documents such as SOPs, reports, and stakeholder guides
Develop educational materials, tools, resources, and services for effective coaching and mentorship.
Develop an effective and efficient program delivery strategy including but not limited to, student-based models, seminars, workshops, and online resources that serve to optimize resources and service capacity.
Develop project budgets for review and approval. Monitor budget to ensure cost for program is on track, adjust budget forecasts to accommodate unforeseen expenses.
Design, coordinate and facilitate workshop planning and strategic planning sessions.
Delegate work tasks to program team ensuring job tasks and office operations are performed accurately and in a timely manner to meet the needs of students, faculty, staff and external stakeholders.
Identify technology efficiency opportunities, including required training needs for the team to embrace technology.
Analyze current program operations and identify areas for process improvement and develop implementation plans.
Collate, analyze and report on data to measure project/program outcomes and/or make program recommendations.
Initiate collaborations and partnerships using a multi-departmental team approach in support of an integrated approach to providing services and promoting a shared approach for student success (academic and career).
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including; students, alumni, employers, vendors, community partners, student employees, colleagues.
Persuade external stakeholders, such as alumni, to engage in program delivery, student networking events.
Negotiate external services with suppliers and contractors by obtaining and collecting quotes from multiple suppliers, and then negotiates for the best combination of price and timeline.
Develop and manage learning outcome assessments and metrics for services and programs across recruitment, admissions, in-course and career.
Provide guidance and information to students regarding appropriate procedures and policies for the submission of Petitions for Special Consideration, Senate Student Appeals, and other processes.
Conduct formal reviews and evaluations of students' academic/career records to ensure eligibility to continue and to graduate from a program.
Respond to escalated complaints and resolves issues regarding the program. For students who present with serious with serious medical, social, and psychological issues, deal sensitively, responsibly, and calmly, referring to appropriate care as needed.
Provide accurate and informed information to key stakeholders (including students, employers, alumni, community partners) by ensuring a thorough knowledge of Faculty and University regulations.
Act as a resource to Chairs, Associate Chairs and faculty members on all matters related to undergraduate/graduate education, students, and issues where precedents and best practices are relevant.
Provide estimates of time and resources for project plans.
Represent the program on various internal and external committees.
Provide lead hand supervision and is responsible for the quality and quantity of work of others.
Has ongoing responsibility for hiring and supervising 1-9 casual employees.
Master's degree in Business or related field of study.
Requires 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a student focused environment and/or education sector (including one year of supervisory experience).
Experience with supervising and leading a team required.

Excellent understanding of labour laws and best practices in experiential learning policy and procedures.

Experience in an experiential educational environment (co-op or internship programs preferred).

Extensive knowledge of various corporate/business industry sectors and labour markets is required.

Excellent written and verbal skills are essential.

Able to work effectively with a wide variety of people at different levels of the University and within the corporate community.

Experience working with multicultural student populations is an asset

Proven ability to manage high stress and high pressure situations with a high degree of maturity and professionalism is critical.

Computer literacy with advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as development and implementation of CRM and CMS tools.

Previous experience in managing projects, designing and facilitating sales and marketing presentations and coaching/facilitation are all vital to the success of this position.

Extensive local travel (may include occasional overnight trips) throughout the year.

Regular activities outside of normal business hours are expected (evenings and weekends).

The successful applicant must have a valid driver’s licence.

Strong understanding of business school competitive landscape as it relates to career development and on-campus recruitment; labour laws and employment standards act; and adult learning and career development theories.

Must be goal and results driven to achieve secure rate targets.

Demonstrated tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive information and conflict situations.
