  • POSITION TITLE: Marketing & Communications Manager - Edmonton
  • PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The duties completed by the Marketing & Communications Manager is to support Parkinson Association of Alberta (PAA) in developing and implementing communication plans that further the goals of the organization. As well as cultivating and maintaining relationships with government, business, health professionals, media, clients, staff, stakeholders and the general public; promote and enhance the PAA brand.

  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in marketing, advertising and communications
  • Accreditation or certification by IABC or CPRS an asset
  • A minimum of five years progressive experience in a marketing and communications role, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity
  • Direct experience with graphic design, web, and other marketing-related software tools
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills, with a well-developed writing style
  • Exceptional understanding and familiarity in brand building and brand management
  • Strong planning, organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and maintain priorities with constantly changing timelines
  • Strong attention to detail, process orientated and excellent editing skills
  • Strong command of the English language, including grammar, punctuation and spelling
  • Self-motivated and capable of decision-making with established guidelines and ability to think creatively and initiate projects to identify need
  • Intermediate to advanced level knowledge of MS Office – Word, Excel and PowerPoint,
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics, SEO, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign and Photoshop
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure in a highly diverse environment with time and resource constraints
  • Experience using Brand/Style Guides

  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works with CEO to develop and makes recommendations on budgets for approval for Marketing & Communications
  • Effectively manages and performs fiscal responsibilities to ensure smooth fiscal operations
  • Communications
  • Strategic Planning
  • Leads the development and implementation of the multi-year communications strategic plan
  • Provides senior level advice and execution of strategic communications involving government, University of Alberta, University of Calgary and stakeholders
  • Sets and maintains high performance standards for self and staff that support the organization’s strategic plans and annual goals
  • Demonstrates a passion to focus on, and effectively communicate about, goals and impact of actions; promotes innovation and is willing to take risks; develops relationships to drive resources and results and has the necessary organizational skills to deliver on the business model; holds self and team members accountable of achieving results; motivates others to translate ideas into action
  • Internal Communications
  • Cultivate and maintain effective positive internal communications and working relationships with staff
  • Provide communications advice and training to staff
  • Inform staff about marketing trends and best practices
  • Meet with PAA’s business units on a bi-weekly basis
  • Communicates opportunities and challenges with staff
  • Work collaboratively with staff to compile specific content and design on communications materials (including newsletter, website, department specific materials)
  • Works with Marketing and Communications Coordinator to develop website timelines and guidelines to be shared with staff
  • Works with Marketing and Communications Coordinator to ensure internal graphic standards are followed

  • Work with staff to ensure specific communication needs are being met (including preparation and printing of all promotional material)
  • Create and implement effective internal communication plans and processes
  • External Communications
  • Cultivate and maintain effective positive external communications and working relationships with stakeholders
  • Assists the CEO with presentations and speaking notes
  • Ensure external graphic standards are followed
  • Website
  • Works with the Marketing and Communications Coordinator to ensure that website contractor developed concept, design and layout is followed
  • Works with the Marketing and Communications Coordinator that website contractor is maintained and updates website in a timely manner
  • Works with Marketing and Communications Coordinator to compile, edit, and compose website content
  • Media
  • Respond to information needs and requests from the public, media, other health organizations and various other stakeholders
  • Cultivate and enhance collaborative working relationships with the media and publicity community on a provincial, regional and local scale
  • Prepare articles, media releases, media advisories, and letters to the editor and other communications pieces for the media
  • Actively position key individuals (ie: clients, health professionals, etc) as quotable sources and/or spokespersons
  • Prepare talking points and prep spokespersons
  • Assist contractor(s) in the development of media/government relations materials
  • Act as spokesperson on behalf of the organization
  • Train staff in media presence, presentations
  • Analyze social media platforms data to track and improve content reach
  • Develops and implements promotional communication strategies and coordination of media interviews
  • Respond to queries and comments on media including social media and networking during marketing events
  • Printed Material
  • Parkinson Pulse Magazine (quarterly)
  • Works with the Marketing & Communications Coordinator to compile, edit and compose content
  • Review advertising solicitations and/or approve as brought forward by the Marketing & Communications Coordinator any advertising in the magazine
  • Printed Materials - Annual report, promotional materials, and department specific materials
  • Works with the Marketing and Communications Coordinator to compile, edit and compose content
  • Reviews and approves the work of the Marketing & Communications Coordinator
  • Works with Marketing and Communications Coordinator to maintain and build relationships with printing companies, designers and other suppliers as needed
  • Works with the Marketing and Communications Coordinator to develop and update marketing material and collateral
  • General
  • Manages and leads the Marketing & Communications department, including supervision of the Marketing & Communications Coordinator
  • Works with CEO to develop and monitor ongoing Marketing and Communications Policies and Procedures
  • Attends staff meetings
  • Attends Client Services and Fund Development meeting to determine need
