Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Manager, Environment & Permitting will join an experienced corporate engineering team working on a broad spectrum of projects at various stages of design, permitting, construction and operation. Based in Vancouver, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing activities related to environmental assessments, permit applications and compliance for Taseko’s development projects and will be the corporate liaison with operating assets in respect of Environmental Management Systems. This individual will play a key role in Taseko’s growth and success by providing input to corporate strategy and managing the advancement of development projects through the environmental assessment and permitting processes.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Manage activities related to environmental assessments and permit applications for proposed projects.
  • Interface and communicate with various levels of government, stakeholders and communities to advance permitting activities.
  • Work collaboratively with the engineering team and proactively identify opportunities to improve project environmental design aspects and streamline regulatory processes.
  • Provide corporate technical support to operating assets with regard to environmental compliance, governance and permitting.
  • Be corporate representative on operating asset EMS Committees.
  • Maintain permit compliance for development projects.
  • Keep abreast of existing and pending legislation and regulations, which may impact the company’s plans and activities; coordinate and disseminate regulatory information within the company.
  • Effectively contribute to Taseko’s strategies, policies, and communications related to environmental regulatory affairs.
  • Represent Taseko at various business and community events and participate in appropriate industry associations to enhance and further Taseko’s interests as well as the industry as a whole.
Professional Experience and Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of environmental / permitting experience with mining operations or resource projects, preferably in British Columbia.
  • Understanding of the full mining cycle from discovery through to closure.
  • Working knowledge of the applicable provincial and federal environmental regulations
  • Strong proven verbal and presentation ability.
  • Clear and concise writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement solutions based on pragmatic, critical thinking.
  • Ability to manage multiple environmental consultants with respect to scope, schedules and cost.
  • Familiar with current regulatory, environmental assessment and permitting practices.
  • Have a clear understanding of First Nations values and issues.
  • A network of strong contacts within the industry and associated government ministries is an asset.
Education:
  • Possess a degree and professional standing, or ability to apply for professional standing, in an appropriate engineering or environmental discipline.
