Destination Canada is looking for a Marketing Manager, Business Events to join our team in Vancouver as we inspire travelers to explore Canada.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Business Events Canada, this role leads the development of business events marketing and communications plans, integrating with leisure marketing plans in target international markets, and manages and reports on marketing campaigns by working closely with internal marketing teams and agencies. Serves as the point of contact for business events team at headquarters and helps resolve operational issues and make process improvements.

DUTIES: The incumbent will work closely with the regional managing directors of in-market teams and the Executive Director, Global Planning to integrate business events marketing strategies into each market’s sales and marketing plans. In managing business events marketing activities, the incumbent will need to work with regional leads, internal teams (e.g. content, paid media, MR/PR teams) and agencies in the development, execution, and tracking of cross-channel paid, owned and earned media campaigns. This will require building buy-in, influencing, and directing cross-functional teams who may not have experience in the business events market. This will also require setting up new procedures and processes with relevant stakeholders as business events marketing programs are developed.

As the rest of the business events team is located remotely, this role will also be the “face” of the business events team at headquarters and will work directly with operational teams to problem-solve issues on behalf of other business events team members, such as invoicing and contractual issues and develop and implement process improvements.

Essential Qualifications

EDUCATION: University degree in Marketing or another field directly related to the position, or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

EXPERIENCE: When applying, the candidate must clearly demonstrate in writing how they meet the following experience criteria:

8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing
Experience developing and managing marketing plans and campaigns
Experience in media relations and/or public relations
Experience in the meetings, conventions, incentive travel industry
Experience in tourism/destination marketing

Strong knowledge of marketing and communications principles and practices
Understanding of paid media, content marketing, and earned media channels
Knowledge of the business events industry (meetings, conventions, and incentive travel)
Understanding of destination marketing and the tourism industry
Knowledge of operations management, including financial, administrative, and supplier management

Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to build strong relationships
Ability to impact, influence and persuade
Presentation skills
Project management and ability to drive results
Ability to manage marketing campaigns and measure success
Copywriting skills
French language ability is an asset
