Siloam Mission is currently seeking for one (1) permanent full-time and one (1) 3-month term full-time Drop-In Support Staff. This position will provide professional and proactive support to Community Members who access Siloam Mission Drop In services.
As part of Siloam Mission’s mandate to be a connecting point between the compassionate and less fortunate, the incumbent is expected to facilitate volunteers whenever possible in the performance of his or her duties.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Provide direct support for community members accessing Siloam Mission’s Drop-In services (i.e. meals, entrance, lockers, clothing room, health center, devotions, volunteer clean-ups, etc.) in a professional manner.
Respond and react to any emergency situations that may occur at the assigned workplace.
Provide professional compassionate daily feedback and address any behavioral concerns with community members.
Provide professional day to day guidance and support to community members and safe and loving community where they are treated with respect and dignity.
Provide professional and informative orientation of the Drop-In to Volunteers.
Ensure volunteers, staff and other stakeholders are treated with equality, respect, dignity and support them to have a positive experience while at the Mission.
Provide professional day to day guidance and support to community members.
Support the team in the daily clean-ups in the drop-in area
Prepare and complete incident reports, daily logs and other required documents and reports.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
Completion of diploma or degree in Health Services or Social Service discipline or equivalent years of experience
Demonstrated knowledge of NVCI, ASIST, First Aid, Mental Health First Aid training (MHFA) and experience as a security guard would be ideal;
Ability to mitigate and respond to threats to safety and security of staff and clients;
Problem solver and has strong ability to make quick decisions under stressful situations;
Demonstrated strong ability to work as part of a team;
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to form relationships with marginalized individuals;
Knowledge of community resources for homelessness, health, mental health and substance use;
Demonstrated understanding of the unique issues and barriers affecting the less-fortunate;
Highly developed understanding of and proven ability to communicate appropriate professional boundaries;
Knowledge and awareness of the Aboriginal culture and cultural diversity
Able to work effectively with minimal supervision;
Good written and verbal communication skills.
