Geotab is actively seeking a Senior Database Administrator responsible for managing database performance and security within the software offering. This role also assists with designing and building of high-performing and scalable database infrastructure. What are the details of this position:
As a Senior Database Administrator your key area of responsibility will be to identify, troubleshoot and correct issues resulting from suboptimal query plans, table design choices, misconfiguration, and missing indexing. You will be collaborating with various teams (Development, DevOps, Support Engineering) to work on resolving database issues such as new queries, upgrades, scripting upgrades, PostgreSQL installations, etc. The Database Administrator will be expected to automate administrative tasks, to efficiently manage more than 1000 servers, 100,000 databases, ranging anywhere from a 100 MB to multiple TB. Our ideal candidate is someone with general database experience on PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server, who has scripting experience in Powershell/Shell. To be successful in this role you will be a highly organized, task oriented individual with a strong team focused attitude and excellent communication skills.

Duties and Tasks/Essential Functions:
Perform database/application performance monitoring and tuning in both a development and production-support capacity
Ensure existing database systems perform well and are properly configured/maintained
Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures in conjunction with the system administrators
Implement and maintain database security
Create and implement plans for database growth and changes; create and document database development and testing standards
Perform database patch management and version control
Develop the required tooling and monitoring in production
Troubleshoot poor performance of queries and produce recommendations, such as indexes, IO subsystem requirements, memory, configuration, SQL query changes etc
Work with DevOps and support teams to ensure that the changes can be applied to databases as required

Experience/Skills Required:
Bachelors of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or other related degree
Minimum of 8 years’ experience in database management in Microsoft SQL/PostgreSQL Server environments is required
Powershell/Shell scripting experience for automating tasks is required
Google Cloud Platform or other cloud management experience is a nice to have
Familiarity with identifying and tuning poor performing SQL queries is a definite plus
Experience in Database storage, security, warehousing, encryption, and recovery best practices is a nice to have
