Middleware Administrator – Job Description
Partner closely with application developers to support web sites, portals, or applications hosted on servers.
Provide subject matter expertise, escalated technical support and consultation to 3rd party support vendors and internal IS Teams.
Provide hands on and technical work for the infrastructure environment and related components.
Work with Architecture Team to implement infrastructure architecture and roadmaps in alignment with current and future business priorities.
Analyzes the current architecture to identify weaknesses and to develop opportunities for improvements such as expanding capacity, reducing time and cost, and increasing effectiveness.
Perform capacity planning and recommend hardware and software upgrade options.
Work with vendors and internal teams for creation of RFI/RFQ/RFP/SOW/A3/A4 documents.
Works with multiple project teams, including the design and modelling of solutions, component identification and acquisition, quality review, and development of guidelines, training material and procedures.
Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams to create requirements, evaluate vendor solutions and find solutions to integrate them into the environment.
Documents non-functional requirements, infrastructure design, hardware, software and professional services appraisals and costs.
Review new technologies that could reduce overall costs, create efficiencies and provide significant value.
Administer, customize and support complex WebSphere portal and application server infrastructure hosting J2EE/ SOA applications.
Implements complex infrastructure with interfaces to back-end systems.
Complete performance tuning of WebSphere portal and application server – JVM tuning.
Support multiple Middleware integration projects by troubleshooting middle-tier issues and assisting developers on infrastructure related issues.
Create, update, and maintain pertinent documentation for procedures, policies, permissions, and landscape.
Utilize performance reports to analyse system activities and recommend configuration and tuning changes to prevent system performance issues and optimize the resource usage.
Establish and maintain strong relationship with IS teams at other affiliates to identify opportunities to leverage common technology.
Review vendor’s disaster recovery configuration and recovery documentation and scripts.
Review disaster recovery test results.
Review security access methods and compliance.
Collaborate and assist other departments and development staff with web and application server analysis, monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting as it relates to application access and transaction performance.
Assist QA teams during load testing and for real time monitoring of all stages of application deployment (Development, QA Load Test and Production).
Middleware Administrator – Mandatory Skills
University Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business or relevant experience in Information Management.
7+ years of progressive experience with Middleware administration including scripting, system deployment automation, and hardware and network infrastructure design.
Proven experience in Solaris and Linux infrastructure strategic planning and development.
Extensive knowledge and understanding of Unix/Linux/RedHat server technologies and administration including patching, clustering, virtualization and zoning and scripting (Python, Shell).
Knowledge of DHCP, LDAP, DNS, CIFS, NFS, SSH, VLANs, SMTP, S/FTP, HTTP(s).
Experience with storage, backup systems and database systems (DB2/SQL/Oracle).
Advanced knowledge of Middleware technologies, Application and Web Servers (Websphere, Apache Tomcat, JBoss, IIS, IHS), MQ, MFT, EDI, LDAP, SSO, IIB.
Proficient with MS Office suite including MS Project and Visio.
Experience with cloud technologies, providers, and application design considerations.
Proven strategic thinker with the ability to assess the current state against the target state and provide the big picture, future visions.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills including influencing, collaborating, facilitating, and negotiating skills.
Must be able to gather detailed technical requirements, design technical solutions and create the required documents for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to lead and manage small projects and proof of concepts.
Demonstrated dependability and commitment to both quality and due dates.
Ability to explain complex technical issues in a way that varying IT and Business Teams may understand.
