Parkland Fuel Corporation acquired Chevron Canada’s downstream fuel business on October 1, 2017, this acquisition includes the Burnaby Refinery which is a modern 55,000 Barrel per day refinery located on Burrard Inlet near Vancouver, British Columbia. Our facility supplies a significant portion of southwestern BC’s gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel and is an important part of Parkland’s network of fuel and petroleum products facilities.

Overview of Position:
The Electrical Specialist works within maintenance’s Reliability group to provide electrical support for the safe, reliable and predictable operation and maintenance of all electrical assets within the refinery and external utility power system concerns. This includes protective relaying, circuit breakers, transformers, motors, generators, PLC’s, UPS, etc.

The position includes troubleshooting, upgrading of existing equipment for improved reliability, knowledge sharing, identification of future reliability opportunities and the execution of all phases of reliability engineering (concept development to field start-up).

Key Responsibilities:
Analyze existing electrical equipment reliability problems and work collaboratively with others to develop long term solutions with the intent of improving overall plant and equipment reliability. Lead the development of electrical condition monitoring programs and make improvements to existing programs to improve their effectiveness.
Provide detailed knowledge to support routine maintenance on all types of electrical equipment within the Burnaby refinery, including protection systems (breakers, fuses, relays, etc.), motors, switchgear, transformers, sub stations, and metering. Give immediate input on equipment upgrades, designs, condition monitoring, routine duties, training needs and knowledge transfer to other departments.
Provide leadership and expertise to troubleshoot and develop solutions for unplanned failures on electrical equipment at the refinery. Fully document all work to capture lessons learned. Lead incident investigations.
Provide detailed technical input for the streamlined reliability centered maintenance (sRCM) task selection for electrical equipment. Provide guidance and expertise to maintenance co-planners to develop model work orders for implementation of sRCM tasks. Provide oversight for adherence to the execution plan of developed reliability strategies to routine maintenance and other departments as applicable.
Provide detailed technical input for the streamlined reliability centered maintenance (sRCM) task selection for electrical equipment. Provide guidance and expertise to maintenance co-planners to develop model work orders for implementation of sRCM tasks. Provide oversight for adherence to the execution plan of developed reliability strategies to routine maintenance and other departments as applicable.
Support routine and turnaround maintenance in the planning and development of, electrical scope and execution plans for the overhaul of electrical equipment or unit shutdowns. Provide repair recommendations, technical support and guidance during implementation, and follow up reporting as required.
Act as project resource to Facilities Engineering to provide expert guidance regarding choice of new equipment to design for reliability. Participate on HAZOP teams as required.
Actively participates and contributes as the Subject Matter Expert to effectively share knowledge & solutions across refining

Qualifications and Skills:
Job knowledge: 5 or more years of experience in hands on, troubleshooting, diagnostic, analysis and improvement implementation in an industrial environment. Electrical technologist diploma or related engineering degree is preferred.
Technical: Demonstrated knowledge base in existing electrical design, operation, and maintenance. Ability to solve complex electrical problems and lead failure analysis/incident investigations. Must be able to develop technical solutions to identified problem areas and prepare job execution plans.
Interpersonal/Communication skills: Demonstrated ability to work seamlessly in multidiscipline teams. Values diversity and communicates effectively both orally and in writing to a wide range of audiences. Able to give and respond well to feedback.
Work Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to concurrently handle many assignments and balance varying priorities and deadlines with minimal supervision. Ability to track work progress and communicate progress to others.
Initiative: Extremely dependable and self-reliant. Displays a high level of ownership and the ability to work independently or as a team member. Understands business goals and works to bring issues to resolution.
Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire and guide both technical and non-technical people. Lead multi-disciplinary groups and teams.
