Reporting to the Clinic Manager, the Licensed Practical Nurse works with the multidisciplinary team and physicians to provide care to the patient and support to the family physicians.

The qualified candidate must be available for 3 months, full-time training daytime, evening and weekend shifts and able to work at all the PCN's six clinics in Calgary and Cochrane.

The qualified candidate must be available for 3 months, full-time training daytime, evening and weekend shifts and able to work at all the PCN’s six clinics in Calgary and Cochrane.

Responsibilities
Key aspects of the position may include, but are not limited to:

Patient preparation
Greet and room the patient
Obtain and record vital signs, height, weight and blood pressure when appropriate
Record a brief and concise history relevant to the patient’s chief complaint
Obtain and process urine samples when appropriate
Review patient charts daily for completeness, ensuring all pertinent results are on chart and the chart is signed by the practitioner
Chaperone male physicians during pelvic and breast exam
Process specimens for transport
Using critical thinking makes decisions based on the analysis of available information
Performs nursing interventions for which she/he can manage the client during and after the intervention or has access to resources (O2 administration, dressing changes, injections, nebulizer treatments)
Works in consultation with the health care team to meet the care needs of the more complex client
Teaches and delivers elements of established health programs
Clinic autoclaving (rotating schedule)
Assist physicians with opportunistic screens for patients in accordance with the ASaP (Alberta Screening and Prevention Maneuvers)
Maintaining high standards in infection control practices
Use appropriate PPE when required
Cleaning the room between patients
Maintaining a neat and tidy workspace
Complying with privacy legislation
Complying with Calgary Foothills PCN administrative policies and procedures
Accountable for their own practice in accordance with CPLNA standards and the employment scope of practice
Collaborate with the health care team as required
Commitment to working together in a climate that promotes respect, trust, safety and support for shared decision-making
Collaborating for the benefit of patients, families and providers to create a positive working environment
Collaborating with physicians and other health care providers to provide an integrative approach to care for patients and families
Be able to learn the receptionist role and assist with reception duties when necessary
The ability to assume team lead responsibilities on weekends, statutory holidays and other times as directed by the Clinic Manager:
The Team Lead will assume responsibilities that would normally be handled by the Clinic Manager following approved clinic processes and procedures. The responsibilities include replacement of staff/physicians, handling any building/maintenance concerns and other issues that may arise. There are comprehensive policies/procedures in place that advise the appropriate actions. There are managers available for support when necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the comprehensive primary health care model and the broad determinants of population health
Knowledge of concepts of health promotion, disease prevention, program planning, individual and group teaching
Communicating with other providers critical information regarding the patient and pertinent issues related to decision-making
Ability to perform specific skills required for the practice role of a Primary Care practice nurse in their particular practice setting in accordance with CLPNA standards of practice
Experience with electronic medical records is required
Specialty certification (e.g. foot care, wound care) preferred
Excellent communication skills, verbal & written
Organizational and time management skills
Accepts, implements and evaluates change with a positive attitude
Clinical nursing skills to care for medically-complex patients
Ability to work well in a team setting
Qualifications
Active LPN license (experience required) with immunization
EMR Proficiency – Familiar with PS Suite and Wolf
CPR certified
Experience in primary care will be considered an asset
Ability to travel to all clinics including Cochrane
