What the role is all about:
This role will report to the Senior Manager, Safety and directly support WinSport business units in complying with WinSport’s Occupational Health and safety Program. This position will provide health and safety-related support and recommendations for direct business unit activities. They will also facilitate the implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety processes within the Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
Work closely with supervisors and managers within assigned business unit(s) on the implementation and continuous maintenance of WinSport’s Health and Safety Program in compliance with OHS law;
Maintain a regular worksite presence to promote health and safety awareness and support through effective workforce engagement, training and coaching;
Identify unsafe acts and unsafe conditions and take appropriate action to influence safe behaviors to make the site and activities safe;
Participate in business unit meetings to provide proactive advice and support, prioritization of safety matters and safety compliance updates, leading to safe operations and task execution;
Conduct and provide support for health and safety related training programs;
Conduct and provide support for incident investigations;
Support business units in addressing proactive and post-investigation actions items in a timely manner;
Participate in emergency response exercises and fulfill emergency response roles as required;
Assist in the development of meaningful annual safety performance objectives and targets, and provide strong stewardship on a regular basis;
Support and participate in health and safety assurance activities including inspections, and internal and external audits, including 3rd party audits;
Work as a member of the Safety Team to facilitate the implementation and continuous improvement of WinSport’s Health and Safety Management System;
Actively participate in the preparation, delivery, and outcomes of safety communications and meetings;
Work collaboratively with the Safety Team and business units to build safety culture;
Educate supervisors in OHS law and related responsibilities;
Report to senior management on OHS compliance within assigned business unit(s); and
Other duties as required
An Occupational Health and Safety Diploma or Certificate
2+ years of direct full-time health & safety experience.
Knowledge and experience of working with COR requirement and Alberta Occupational Health & Safety legislation
Outgoing and approachable personality.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, with focus on Excel
Strong attention to detail.
The ability to prioritize, organize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills with a proven ability to successfully influence.
Experience working with public safety would be considered an asset.
A portion of each workday will be spent across campus in a variety of facilities.
Able to work as part of cross-functional teams to achieve a strong safety culture.
Physical tasks are significant part of this position – walking, skiing and lifting.
Evening and weekend work will be required.
Driving a variety of WinSport vehicles, including ATV’s, snowmobiles, trucks, etc
