WAYS provides unwavering support for high-needs children, youth and families through personalized mental health services. As a Residential Counsellor – Relief Part-Time you will provide critical coverage for our residential teams, along with helping to ensure a safe and comforting environment for our youth. Position Details:
Guaranteed 24 hours per week on average, with the possibility of working up to 40 hours per week.
Shift work is required, including evenings, weekends, and overnights. Hours of work will vary, depending on needs of the residences.
Primarily will be assigned to two residential teams but may be required to work in any of the residences from time-to-time.
Shifts will normally be assigned at least one month in advance by the Scheduling Department.

This position is ideal for you if:
You are available to work at least 50% of the days (all shifts) during peak scheduling periods (March Break week, July 15th to September 15th, December 15th to January 15th), 50% of statutory holidays (all shifts) in the year including at least one of Christmas, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day, and 50% of the weekend days (all shifts) in a month.

In the position of Residential Counsellor – Relief Part Time you would be responsible for the following:

Providing therapeutic counselling.
Implementing and maintaining specific treatment plans.
Observing and managing the behavior of residents.
Responding to the emotional and physical needs of the residents in the program.
Acting as a positive role model.
Planning and implementing recreational activities.
Providing residents with instructions in life skills; i.e. cooking, laundry, cleaning, budgeting.
Performing housekeeping and cooking duties.
Completing daily notes, reports, and logs.

The successful candidate will meet the following:
Must possess a Community College Diploma in child and youth care or equivalent specialization or a university degree in social science.
Must possess a valid class G or G2 Driver’s License.
Current in Red Cross First Aid and CPR and the Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behaviour (PMAB), or willingness to obtain these certifications.
Experiences as a frontline worker in a residential setting would be preferred.
Ability to provide services in French is an asset.
