| Location: Manotick Station, Ottawa, Ontario Beginning of May 2012 - end of Oct 2012 Requirements: Ability to work-hard, Responsible, Adaptable, Organized, Sense-of-humour, Enthusiastic, undergraduate degree or college diploma. Roots and Shoots Farm is a small organic vegetable farm offering 200 summer and fall CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares to our local community as well as attending markets in Ottawa, Manotick and Kanata. We grow over 40 varieties of vegetables on 8 acres, rotating on 30 acres. We have a 3x 2600 square foot greenhouse to produce seedlings and greenhouse tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. Work Schedule: Interns work Tuesday to Saturday or Wednesday to Sunday, depending on market schedule. We will have a team of six and will have a market rotation, allowing everyone to have a full two-day weekend, every-other week. By interning with us you will participate in the many different aspects of running of a farm, including greenhouse production, transplanting, crop management, direct seeding, harvesting, marketing, preserving, etc. While including time for farm-education is an important part of our week work, the work on our farm is very labour intensive and .... |
